Noah Ryan has spent most of his life in a tiny western Michigan farming community where everybody knows everybody—and almost nobody new ever arrives.

So when senior year approaches, Noah makes a simple wish: Could just one interesting person please move to Grand River?

Then Evin Woodward shows up.

A Southerner with family ties to the area, Evin arrives unexpectedly to live with his father on an aging farm outside town. He isn't anything like the person Noah imagined when he made his wish. He's guarded, displaced, and trying to make sense of a life that changed without his permission.

He's also impossible for Noah to ignore.

What begins as curiosity becomes friendship, and friendship slowly turns into something neither boy expected. Against back roads, farm fields, Friday nights, and the winding river that has always defined Noah's world, Evin begins to discover that being sent somewhere doesn't mean you can't choose to stay—and Noah discovers that sometimes getting exactly what you wished for can change everything.

But senior year has an ending. College is coming, and the future threatens to separate them almost as quickly as Grand River brought them together.

Noah wished for someone new to come to town.
